Porcelain Cats

In an old house, in the dead of night, on a dressing table, in a forgotten room sit porcelain cats, neatly arranged in a row. They watch the old dusty room like guardians of the night their painted eyes fixed in a stare. Fixed on the old bed with the white sheets. White sheets dust grey from the years. The Cats they stare. Watching time. Time moves. Passing like water through the house washing away the memories and moldering the walls. Laying sediment on the white sheets and the white cats and the white lacey table cover. All memories of white all dust grey.
Just these white porcelain cats that once upon a time frail fingers had arranged in a row. Arranged in a row, nudged into place, perhaps after dusting. Nudged into place for the last time. Without knowing it was the last time.
